Family Photos: What We Wore

We survived! Family Picture Day – that annual event (although it's been a few years for us) let’s face it, every mom secretly dreads but rarely admits out loud. Navigating the outfits, ambiance, lighting, and those ever-elusive genuine smiles can feel like an impossible task. For our recent photo session at the park, I opted for a palette of blues, khaki, gray and whites. I aimed for us to look coordinated but not too matchy-matchy. If only photos could relay the backstage negotiations – ‘smile now, ice cream later,’ the ever-optimistic 'we're almost done,' and of course, the universally recognized mom-glare. And here's my biggest tip: go shoeless. My photographer (he’s the best, btw) swears by it. Ditch the shoes when you can. They can be a distraction and just another item you need to buy and coordinate.

To the moms gearing up for their own photo op, consider this a torch in the tunnel. Lean into color coordination, let the kids believe they have some input, and laugh off the imperfections. The candid moments are always the real keepsakes anyway.
